AFRICAN ART
Featuring many fine examples of figure sculpture, masks, ritual objects, furniture and household objects, textiles, ceramics and metal arts, the collection of nearly 2,000 objects includes an Egyptian false door, a Yoruba epa mask, Benin bronze hip pendant, a divination portrait of a king from Dahomey, and several contemporary works by African artists.
AMERICAN ART
Spanning the late 18th through mid 20th century, the museum features a superb collection of American painting, sculpture, works on paper, and decorative arts. Among the masterpieces on display are paintings by Gilbert Stuart, Albert Bierstadt, and John Singer Sargent; sculptures by Hiram Powers and Frederic Remington; and important decorative pieces by Tiffany Studios and Frank Lloyd Wright.
ASIAN ART
The finest, largest and most comprehensive collection of Asian art in the Southeast, comprising more than 4,000 objects from China, Korea, Japan, India, and Southeast Asia. The collection contains outstanding examples of Buddhist and Hindu art, lacquer ware, ceramics, paintings, prints, sculpture, and decorative arts.
THE DWIGHT AND LUCILLE BEESON WEDGWOOD COLLECTION
The finest collection of Wedgwood outside England, comprising more than 1,400 objects illustrating the entire production of the Wedgwood factory from its early years through the early 19th century.
CONTEMPORARY ART
Featuring painting, sculpture, video, photography, works on paper, and installation art that illuminate movements and trends from the 1960s to the present. The collection includes prime examples by internationally renowned artists as well as works by a younger generation who are defining the new century.
EUROPEAN DECORATIVE ARTS
One of the foundations of the Museum’s permanent collection comprised of more than 12,000 objects including ceramics, glass, and furniture dating from the Renaissance to the present day.
THE EUGENIA WOODWARD HITT COLLECTION OF 18TH-CENTURY FRENCH ART
One of the finest collections of 18th-century French art in the United States. The collection includes furniture of the Louis XIV, XV, and XVI periods, mounted porcelain, gilt bronzes, paintings, and works on paper from the Regénce to the period following the French Revolution.
THE KRESS COLLECTION OF RENAISSANCE ART
A remarkable collection of Renaissance and Baroque paintings, sculpture and decorative arts. Features 76 works dating from the late 13th century to c.1750.
NATIVE AMERICAN ART
Houses a large installation of Native American arts from all major areas on the North American continent. Features exceptional works of pottery, textiles, basketry, beadwork, and sculpture.
THE CHARLES W. IRELAND SCULPTURE GARDEN
This beautiful multi-level sculpture garden is one of the largest and most significant outdoor spaces for experiencing art in the Southeast. On view are works from the permanent collection as well as temporary exhibitions of sculpture.
